Playmakers' Rookie Point Guard Davonte' Richards Shows Signs of Leadership

Roseville, MI. - At the beginning of the Summer 2008
season for the Premier Sports' Playmakers, Coach
Robinson was wondering who would be the starting point guard for the Playmakers. "Most of our veteran players are going on vaction or will be playing other sports this summer. So I knew we would be having to develop another point guard", the coach stated.
"Right into our laps fell a rookie point guard, that I consider to be one of the top point guards in this league at the present. He has all the tools I look for and the thing I like most of all, is that he is very coachable. I can see his passion for the game! He wants to be good and he will work hard to accomplish that." The coach said.
"He is a talented player. He can penetrate. He can shoot. But, his abilities to distribute the ball to open players, and literally take the ball away from an offense by stealing it or rebounding it, is what makes him a special player.

Roseville, Mi.- Congradulations to the Playmakers' power forward Brian Turner, who set a team record with 16 rebounds in the Playmakers win against BBC's Hoopers 10/11u team, 49-26. The game took place at Basketball City, in Roseville, Michigan, on June 25, 2008, where the Premier Sports' Playmakers (1-1) play AAU league games.
Brian's 16 rebounds in the game, broke the Playmakers' Single Game Record held by Darrin Gildon with 14.

David Shipp Jr. Lead Playmakers With 16 Points In Win Against Hoopers 10/11U

Roseville, Mi. - The Playmakers received instant offense from their shooting guard, David Shipp Jr., who was on fire
during the Playmers 49-26 win over BBC's Hoopers on 6-25-08. "I thought I was going to have to go and get a fire exstinguisher to cool David off". The coach said. "David was in some kind of zone, he made shot-after-shot-after-shot", Coach Robinson said.
David Shipp Jr. also tied a Playmakers' team record with 16 points in a game. David shot 7 of 12 from the floor, and 2-2 from the free throw line. Great game David, keep up the good work!

Playmakers Head Back To Work After Holiday Season Break
Roseville, Mi. - Well after our extended 4th of July break, it's time for the Playmakers to get back into the swing of things. "Practices will probably seem long and exhausting, since we have been off for the holiday." Coach Robinson stated. "However, we will get through them (practices) and get back into game shape," Coach Robinson mentioned.
The Playmakers are still in the thick of things with a 1-2 record. They suffered a disappointing loss to the Eastside Lakers on July 2, 2008. But, a victory in the next game against the first place Hoopers 11/12u would bring them to just a game out of first place.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roseville, Mi. - The Premier Sports Playmakers signed four new players to the team during the Holiday break. After a couple of practices, they look like they all will fit in well with the nucleus of the team.
The Playmakers appear to be trying to establish themselves as a defensive-minded team, that looks to push the ball up the court in a hurry. "That is our main goal. Everybody on the team has to be responsible for providing the energy necessary to be good defenders. Our offense comes so much easier when we play tough defense." Coach Robinson added.
"Each of our new players brings a defensive presence to the team, so I'm sure they will adjust fine. Plus, they give me an opportunity to really be flexible with our line up. Moreover, they push our vets and rookies in practice, which makes us a better team altogether." Coach Robinson stated.
It looks like the Playmakers might be able to turn that 1-2 record around during the second half of the season. Stay tuned Playmakers' Fans!

Big Test Waiting For Playmakers When Season Resumes Play!
Roseville, Mi. - The Premier Sports' Playmakers have a big test waiting for them when the regular season continues after the holiday break. They must face the first place Hoopers 11/12u (3-0). The Hoopers 11/12u team appears to once again have a strong team this season.
"They (the Hoopers 11/12u) are a well disciplined team. Coach James has those guys ready to play hard every game." Coach Robinson stated. "We have got to bring our "A" game in order to beat this team. They don't make many mistakes during a game, and they are ready to capitalize on your errors." The Coach added.

Playmakers Upset Pistons On Last Second Shot 37-35

Qua Von Irby Sinks A Three To Lift Playmakers To A 37-35 Win Over Pistons 7-30-2008
|
Roseville, Mi. - In the final regular season game of the Summer AAU Basketball League, at "Basketball City" in Roseville, the Pistons (4-1) and the Premier Sports' Playmakers (2-3) tipped off one of the greatest games of the season.
In week one of the season, the Pistons were able to muscle their way to an impressive win over the Playmakers. "We knew going into this game, that in order for us to win, we would have to push the ball up and down the floor against the Pistons. They like to get you in a half court game where they can use their height to their advantage". Coach Robinson stated.
Once the game began, the Playmakers were on the attack, scoring the first four points of the game. "Our full court press, early in the game, worked to perfection. It prevented them from establishing their low post game". The Coach added.
The Playmakers set the tone early and often in the game, by trapping and forcing the Pistons into alot of turnovers. "Our defense was astounding! Every time we needed a play on defense, we made it happen". Coach Robinson mentioned.
Offensively, the Playmakers were on fire at times, displaying the options of taking the ball inside or knocking down an array of three pointers. "Even though we only scored 37 points in the game, we had so many opportunities to cash in more points.. We missed several lay ups that could have come back to haunt us". Coach Robinson stated.
At halftime, the Playmakers were up 23-17, looking to hold on for an upset over the top ranked Pistons. The start of the second half, the Pistons mounted a comeback. They (Pistons) began forcing the Playmakers' second team into turnovers and quick scores. The Playmakers called timeout and the Pistons had their first lead of the game. "I had to call timeout because the Pistons were making a run. I had to get the starters back into the game to handle the pressure that the Pistons were trying to apply". The Coach added.
No lead appeared to be safe, as the Playmakers and Pistons continued to go back and forth. At times the game resembled a boxing title fight because each team took turns trying to deliver the knockout. Yet each team took each team's best shot and remained focused. "I am so proud of the way my guys played. They showed a lot of character in being able to come up with big play after big play. They were very composed amid all the chaos on the court, as well as the noise from the crowd". Coach Robinson mentioned.
The Crowd played at major factor in the game. They were really into the game, which set the stage for a dramatic, Hollywood-ending to this game. "The crowd was so hyped! We had alot of fans cheer for us at the game. They (the crowd) provided us with alot of energy". The Coach said.
With less than two minutes remaining in the game, the Piston knocked down a three point shot, to go up by two. The Playmakers broke the press being set by the Pistons, as #8 Qua Von Irby (Playmakers) split two defenders and passed to #0 Jaylis Myles for a three pointer.
At the one minute mark of the game, the Playmakers' fouled one of the Pistons' guards, sending him to the line for two shots. After making both free thows, the Pistons are up now up 32-27.
The Playmakers come down and #0 Jaylis Myles attempts a three to tie the game...he misses the shot, but the Pistons' foul him in the act of shooting the shot. So he goes to the line for three foul shots. Calmly, Myles sinks all three shots to close the gap to 32-30.
The Playmakers foul one of the Pistons attempting a shot. At the line, he (Piston player unknown) makes the first shot. Then, the Playmakers' Coach calls timeout.
"I had a feeling the Pistons' player shooting at the free throw line was going to miss the second shot. So I told my guys to make sure you get this rebound". Coach Robinson said.
After the timeout, the Pistons miss the second free throw attempt. The score: Pistons 33, Playmakers 30.
Now with :24 seconds remaining, the Playmakers' #8 Qua Von Irby catches a pass from Davonte Richards and knocks down a wide open three at the top of the key. The crowd goes wild! Playmakers 34, Pistons 35.
The Playmakers force a turnover with :03.9 seconds remaining in the game and calls their last timeout.
After the timeout, the Playmakers inbound the ball on the sideline. The pass goes to #8 Irby, who splits two defenders as he crosses the half court line. The clock is ticking down...The Crowd is on it's feet...Irby shoots...And banks in the shot for the Win!!! "Oh my goodness!! He Made It! Playmakers win 37-35. Wow! what a game.
